I wrote this book as a mega tool kit to help younger me chasing the pro athlete dream. Turns out, most people who read it don't want to become pros, they just love cycling and found the book motivating and learned some stuff along the way.

I hope you love it too, I hope it fires you up and I hope this guide helps you go further than I ever did.

I'm cheering for ya bud,

  • Jack

"Jack’s book is so incredible that I have listened to it twice already and I’m sure that I’ll be back a third time before too long.

It’s one of the most inspirational sporting stories I’ve heard, and really shows what it means to believe in yourself and to continue to chase your dreams, even when you are getting knocked down time and time again.

On top of that, it is also super entertaining and the hours listening flew by - some of Jack’s stories are so wild that if they don’t make you cry, they will definitely make you laugh.

If you want to become a pro cyclist, this book is made for you.

It will give you an eye-opening insight into what it takes to turn your dream into a reality.

However, even if that’s not your dream, this book is still made for you! It’s super detailed, full of both motivating stories and harsh realities in every chapter.

Arthur Kluckers

"The David Goggins of cycling - Jack Burke

If there's one guy who puts in the hours on the bike, has the mental fortitude to achieve goals and commits his life to reach childhood dreams - it's Jack.

His work ethic is truly remarkable and the book How to become a pro cyclist is the perfect example of it.

There is a lot to learn as a young cyclist trying to make it to the pro ranks, but this book gives a really good insight into the journey towards it.

I truly enjoyed listening to the book because a lot of the stories and challenges are shared experiences for aspiring cyclists or even sport enthusiasts.

As a teammate I always enjoyed listening to Jack's stories of Canada, mountain lions or bears. Jack was always a good story teller and the book reflects his skill and attention to detail to describe the challenges, lessons and learnings it takes to make it as a pro."

Melanie Bittner

"It‘s been probably one of the most humbling and motivating sports biographies I‘ve ever read.

A pure, raw insight into the world of aspiring athletes trying to make it into the world tour that I don't think you've ever heard anywhere before.

Which is super interesting.

Most importantly-thanks for a lot of dumb ideas to try."

Joss Lowden

‘I have loved reading and listening to Jack’s stories of his quest to make it to the World Tour. This is as much a bundle of funny, moving, entertaining and just draw dropping accounts of his training and life as it is a guide to becoming a professional cyclist.

You don’t only need to read this if you are training to go Pro. You should read this to marvel at the lengths some people go to reach their goals and fulfil their dreams.

If I had a men’s world tour team I would 100% give Jack a contract.’

Ide Schelling

An interesting story of a man who never heard of the word quitting.

A strong mind and body not always makes what it takes to become a pro cyclist. In the book Jack explains all the ins and outs & do's and don'ts if you want to make it from overseas.

Had a couple good laughs about the extreme persistence of Jack to make it as a professional cyclist but with this also forming him as a person to who he is today!

Alison Jackson

"I always say, "Life is about story-collecting."

Jack has collected a lot of wild stories in his pursuit of the pro-cyclist dream and tells them in a way that makes you love the guy behind the ups and downs of wheels, skis, tears and the joy of living a full life."

Mitch Docker

"This is a book for all those wanting to know the steps to turn pro.

Even though Jack never made it to the big leagues he has explored every possible avenue one can to make that step.

If you never aspire to ride professionally this book allows you to understand what it takes for all those who made that step to World Tour Pro cycling"

Archie Ryan

"Loved the book. Such a great insight into jacks story, not many people out there will have a crazier story, but also has so much valuable knowledge and stories that will make you laugh.

Couldn’t recommend it more. Bring on the second edition!!!"

Riejanne Markus

It's inspiring to listen to the stories. Especially for me, as a rider from Europe, it's good to hear the stories from Jack trying to make it in racing in Europe.

The dedication and his crazy hours on the bike are a motivation for everyone. Enjoyed listening to the book!

Dan Bigham

“I think just in general lifting the lid on what chasing the dream is, is really quite powerful because I think the media glorifies it and obviously we see everything through social media nowadays and it's just not, real life.

I think to actually just understand what it's like to try and chase the dream and try and achieve all of that stuff, it's really refreshing.

I think, at least from my perspective, I find it quite enjoyable 'cause I've been through a lot of the similar kind of thoughts and processes”

Svein Tuft

"Jack takes a deep dive into what it takes to become a pro in this modern peloton. It has evolved a lot in the past 10 years and he has a real in depth perspective of many different paths a young rider can make.

I enjoyed the alternative ideas and techniques that Jack applied. Taken to the extreme in many cases, but quite often those are the best lessons learned.

A must read for any young rider making their way to Europe and an entertaining read for anyone who wants a window into the inner workings of professional cycling."

Jan Maas

"As soon as Jack published this book I had to have it because I know this man’s work ethic.

This book would be great and a recommendation for everyone who sees themself as a serious athlete."

Julie Van De Velde

I was really impressed to read Jack's book "How to become a pro cyclist". As a European girl, I didn't realise what it takes for non-Europeans to chase the dream of becoming a professional cyclist.

By reading Jack's book, I now got insights in what they have to give up and what challenges they have to tackle to try to make it in Europe. Big respect to all of you!

The stories where sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always very inspiring and it was nice to have a look in his life and how he dealed with everything, good or bad.

I was also very impressed of how tough Jack is. All the training hours he can handle, week after week, in combination with all other things like heat training for example to become better and to get everything out of it, is just impressive.

Coming back after every setback, with such a high motivation, it's something to look up to and to get motivated myself to never give up and always keep going.

Thanks for sharing your life story and all your experiences, Jack, I think a lot of guys and girls will take advance of it by reading your book, including myself!

Caroline Bohé

It’s a super inspiring book, and I haven’t heard about many other athletes working as hard to make as you did - even many that actually “made it”.

It motivated me to work even harder through the winter months. Thanks for that!

Megan Jastrab

In "How to Become a Pro Cyclist," readers are treated to an inspiring journey through the highs and lows of chasing the cycling dream in Europe.

The stories and struggles of a North American trying to become a professional cyclist in Europe shares insight into the not so glamorous realities of the sport we love. This book takes readers inside the daily life of someone giving their all (and more) to try and reach a dream.

People watch cycling on TV and think it is a fun sport to partake in, but sometimes miss the details of what it actually took for these riders to even be on the start lines of these races - Jack shares these struggles.

Jack's book not only provides valuable insights into the challenges of transitioning to European racing but also offers solutions that he came up with to navigate these hurdles.

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a casual fan, "How to Become a Pro Cyclist" offers something for everyone. With its engaging narrative, this book is a great read for anyone with a passing interest in the world of cycling.

Mattia Gaffuri

"many of you have asked me which books about cycling you should buy. Some books I read are very technical and some biographies are very captivating, but this one l just read is the perfect mix of those 2, with a little bit of training madness in ciclismo kompetente’s perfect style.

Great insights for anybody who wants to make it, many lessons to learn from and tips to preciously take home."

The book is absolutely full of brilliant analogies, titbits of advice from deep within the sport and great stories for long travel days.

I personally have been highly motivated by Jack's story and the book. The knowledge is totally invaluable.

Although I, as a middle-aged amateur athlete, am not part of the core target group, the book really inspired me. The stories are very lively and authentic. Thanks to your openness, I can identify better with the aspiring athletes.

Your work is both entertaining and very educational. I would like to thank you for the deep insights.

I even briefly considered trying out cross-country skiing. But in my free time I will continue to dedicate myself entirely to cycling and reading good books.

I am Junior Cross Country rider from Austria and bought the book in last years Offseason. It took me quit a while to finish because i only watched it with the video series, but man that was so motivating. I loved the storys of how much Jack trained and i was questioning if i was even trying 😅. I also learned quite some things. I loved the explantation about what/how to eat without limiting yourself. All in all I smashed this season and got 5 place at the Wolrd Championships in Junior class, many Junior World Cup Podiums and currently fourth in the Junior World Ranking.

Its a great mix of story telling, educating and motivation all packed in a videobook so you dont have to read it . And everything is explaind super simple and easy to try yourself.

I read a few pages every night & it's a masterpiece for me!

It's really a content of experiences, hard and good moments, stories... that really show you what chasing the dream is like.

The Italian translation is really well done.

I'm reading it in Italian and listening to the audio book in English, as I really enjoy your advice and stories that way.

I loved every minute of the book! Really inspiring to read. I’m not a book guy, but this one had me locked in until it was finished. By reading and listening to Jack’s story I got insights to more than I ever knew about trying to make it as a pro and how hard he has worked, which is so inspiring. The stories from Jack also really helped me finding motivation for the days that were not so easy.

I currently moved away from home to try and make it as a pro, and this book certainly have learned me a few new things. A book and story every cyclist should read.

- Tobias Larsen

Artboard 1

this book is bloody good!

I started reading it and got to chapter 20. Then I saw that there was going to be a lot of useful information and I started again with the first chapter, with the change that I started writing down the useful information in the book😅

Even though I am not a cyclist (I train cross country skiing), I find the book really useful. Mainly for two reasons: firstly, you get a different view of the world, some new experiences that I'm sure will come in handy some day😀 secondly, it has a motivational effect on me, you see what can be done with effort and enthusiasm, and that when you're 22 years old it's not the end in the endurance sport.

It's true that the book is more expensive than the others, but it's worth every penny.

- Martin Močnik

Artboard 1

Thank you so much for these stories!

It's very nice to see how you gave up many things and made enormous sacrifices to make your dream come true. I identified with some situations in your story where, despite many difficulties, the hunger to reach the goal was always so strong that I never gave up.

It would be nice if other high-level athletes told their story like you did to show how not everything is always easy even for the strongest athletes in the world. After seeing your Kom on Stelvio and Alpe D'Huez I thought you were like all the lucky ones born with an extraordinary engine, but after reading your story I understood how all the hard work you've done over the years has paid off.

- Gabriel Curtaz

Such an incredibly inspiring book! I've read 2/3 of it, I'm flying to Mallorca in a few days and I'm happy that I still have a few pages to read in the evening in the hotel after my training! The book is really 10/10! Thanks again! More of this please 😅.

- Philip Windhaeuser

I am so impressed.

Not just for the funny stories and the very interesting insights in pro cycling, but also cause I noticed a lot of similarities to my own life. In my younger years I was very active in cycling and race with Jan Ullrich in some international races. For me was cycling sometimes a hate and love and I had the same struggles with eating like you.

Also the family situation, I also had a very complicate relationship with my father and was totally supported just by my mother.

I have a lot of respect what you achieved, Jack! Also that you wrote it down and the integration of such a lot interesting people and their stories is mind blowing. I think that you gained a lot more than most of the pro cyclists!

- Jan Steen

I am currently watching the video version and I have finished chapter 43. I am enjoying this book so much and it’s helping me to learn english too, because i’m Italian. I often watch through my indoor workouts to give me some motivation and it feels good to listen stories from real life and continental cycling (I’m continental cyclist too) Overall I’m very satisfied! Can’t wait to finish it.

5 out of 5 Stars! In How to Become A Pro Cyclist, Jack Burke, has drawn together a fascinating compendium of training methods and advice along with one of the most interesting and insightful stories of his own journey to becoming Pro. It's rare to come across someone who combines the open-mindedness to learn new training methods, the ability to test them, to explain them to others, and give a wild story of how he put everything on the line to become such an insanely good cyclist. As a keen cyclist and someone who appreciates learning from people who are willing to give it everything, I can't recommend this book highly enough.

- James Anderson

This book is Amazing! One of the best books on cycling I have ever read (listened to)

All the interviews, the stories and the questions to other pros are so good.

One thing I really appreciate is if you don’t understand what the answer was to a question, you’ll stop and ask it again. This is really rare and it’s very helpful to the listener.

I’ve recommended it to a bunch of people and have sent snippets to people.

The Creed story where you asked at the start about the tooth that fell out, I was dying

- Patrick McNally

As someone who will never be a pro cyclist but loves to ride and see inside the pro side of the sport, I can definitely recommend Jack's book. The stories and insights are both entertaining and informative for even the weekend warrior trying to maximize their training. It also gave me a great appreciation that what separates us weekend warriors from Jack and the guys at the top is as much their mentality as it is their physical talent. Looking forward to the third edition.

I’m reading the book, mostly in the video series and audiobook formats, but even though I haven't finished it yet, I'm already thinking about buying the print version on Amazon. I love the book.

In terms of content, I find it very valuable. I’m a self-taught mountain biker who is trying to dedicate as much effort as possible to achieving my dream, so your book is perfect for getting ideas for various workouts done by professionals, discovering new protocols and learning the thoughts of coaches and researchers I admire.

You manage to convey the emotions you experienced perfectly. I find myself in many of them, which makes me think that I'm not the only one in this situation and that I'm not the one who put in the most effort. The stories are incredible, and it's motivating to know that someone has done more than you, so you don’t know if you’ve actually pushed yourself to the limit. Thank you for making all the stories available.

- Stefano Gerbaz

Artboard 1

I love both books!

How to become a pro Cyclist is the most inspiring story to go to World Tour, I‘ve ever heard of! It’s the inspiring stories, the useful small tips for life as an athlete and beyond, as well as the motivational tone you tell all this bundled into an understandable structure. The book is something you read a couple of times, listen to it here and there and still never get enough of it! Thanks Jack for adding something really nice to the world of cycling 🫶🏻

- Louis Leidert

The things I love the most are the crazy stories. All I’m thinking: Is this normal in a life of a pro cyclist? You are a special one and that makes it nice to read.

I was given Jack’s book as a Christmas present by my husband » I did not realize how useful this book would be. Not only is it full of anecdotes and honest reflection but I’m sure there is a gem in there for everyone that will transform their racing, riding or simple pleasure of being on a bike.

For me it was all about a niggle I’ve had for years that was always put down to tight hip flexors which Jack’s book helped me solve.

- Suzannah Doyle

Artboard 1

As a amateur cyclist with a job, family & not nearly enough time to ride as much, this book really hit home. It’s super honest about just how much work & sacrifice it takes to even try to make it in cycling at the top level, it’s kind of insane.

At the same time, there’s a ton of useful stuff in here for people like me who just want to get faster & make the most out of limited ride time.

Jack shares a lot of tips that anyone can actually use, whether you’re cramming workouts into your mornings or trying to figure out how to be more efficient on the bike. I definitely picked up a few nuggets I can apply right away.

What really makes the book fun are the crazy stories from racing life—some of them are just wild and had me thinking, “Yeah, I’m pretty happy keeping this as a hobby!”

It fired me up.

Even if I’m not aiming for the pro ranks, it’s motivating to hear what’s possible when you really commit.

If you’re like me—just trying to squeeze every bit out of the time you do have—this book is 100% worth your time.

Jack Burke's "How to Become a Pro Cyclist" is a must read.

Jack's journey from his junior development all the way through to the pros is well documented with engaging storytelling, insightful interviews with pro cyclists and countless hours of Jack's personal reflection to help those readers pursue their dreams in pro cycling.

Beyond the budding professional, however, Jack's story is one of setbacks, perseverance and the unwavering pursuit of one's dreams that all readers can apply to their individual circumstances.

I personally enjoyed the audiobook version because I felt more connected to Jack's story.

For those who have listened to and enjoyed Jack's podcast, reading or listening to his book is the natural next step to dive deeper into his story.

If Jack has an opportunity to write a follow-up edition I would appreciate learning more about his training history as he evolved from a junior into a professional. As someone who is enamored in the science of endurance training I would be interested in the details of Jack's progress over time and how his training structure helped build his engine into one of the biggest in the sport. "How to Become a Pro Cyclist" is a hidden gem that I cannot recommend enough.

How to become a pro-cyclist has been a super journey, so inspiring, the audio version has been a great option for my training days and commuting to work.

Useful tips, nice stories from who is living the dream and chasing it. It's life teaching, even out of cycling word, be consistent be resilient learn from mistakes and never quit, it's never too late.

Thank you Jack such a nice experience.

It is just fantastic, I am going through it for the third time. It is my go to listening when I am on the bike, provides me motivation and kind of a companion I can relate to.

The book provides so many insights on the pro world, athletic history & life stories.

I really appreciate the honesty and transparency and I believe it is not only for people who want to become pros but also just cycling aficionados and people that cycle for pure passion and find purpose in it(I am UCI ELITE with a C-level position in a company in Vienna).

Thank you Jack for dedicating your time and life in order to provide such an amazing book!

Buy the book now!

After listening to Jack's podcast's I had to buy the book too. I think as an amateur cyclist Jack Burke is the best source to find out what you are doing wrong I've ever found.

Nowhere else it's possible to get this amount of detailed information about road cycling.

Konstantin Karasek

What a great book! As nothing more than an enthusiastic 40 + amateur (but passionate cyclist) i loved hearing Jacks stories and training tips. I listened to this during long indoor training sessions and car journeys and I am hooked!

Paul Follos

I just finished reading this book. It's not only a story of Jack Burke trying to become a professional, it's a book about the meaning of a life in pursuit of a dream, and the fact that the pursuit itself is worth more than the dream. Beautiful.

Amazing Jack

Marco Pinotti

I listened to the book only during long training days on the bike, and usually I dont listen to music or books for more than an hour - but this time, I ate it all raw and devoured all of the stories within a week or so.

Some parts and stories, I even paused my training for and replayed them. The stories got me jiggling through rainy and windy rides and I fumbled with a puncture for more than long enough because I was so absorbed by the crazy story about training on a main road and using the passing cars as a only source of light 😂.

Thanks a lot for making me feel less crazy, the incredible information and plenty of laughs.

Nick Rasmussen

I’m a medical doctor who dabbles in coaching and an athlete of mine has just completed her first euro race season (from Australia). Needless to say, the learning curve was steep and we were both unprepared of what was to come.

Enter, Jack Burke - the collector of elite level cycling experience and information. I’ve read a bunch of medical, physiology, training methodology and principles‘ type of textbooks over the years, however, there are experiences I just haven’t had.

The content Jack has put together closes the gap between myself and the athlete. I highly recommend the content Jack has provided to anyone interested in learning about what it takes to perform at the highest level in cycling.

Jesse Thompson

I’m not a pro cyclist, but as a master amateur here are my thoughts.

Jack Burke's How to Become a Pro Cyclist has proven to be an enlightening and inspiring read that offers a rare glimpse into the life of a professional cyclist—something many of us know little about.

The book details the often unseen and unknown aspects of professional cycling. Burke’s in-depth exploration of the daily routines, rigorous training regimens, and the sheer mental and physical stamina required to excel in this sport is eye-opening. It shatters any romanticized notions and lays bare the reality of what it truly takes to make it to the top.

This insider perspective is both fascinating and motivating, providing a realistic picture that can fuel your passion as well as help you appreciate the efforts of professional athletes even more.

I know I will never become a professional cyclist, but I’m convinced that this book would be impactful for the 15-year-old me. Back then, cycling was a dream fueled by enthusiasm but lacking direction and much needed support.

Burke’s book would have been an invaluable guide, offering practical tips, boosting moral and giving hope on those hard moments.

Today, as a 44-year-old mom with a full-time job, balancing family, work, and some mtb races on the master’s category is sometimes a daunting task. How to Become a Pro Cyclist still holds significant value, because through his stories, I found lots of practical bits of advice that can be used by anyone to improve their training sessions and performance.

In conclusion the advice on maintaining motivation, overcoming obstacles and balancing various aspects of life while pursuing a passion are universally applicable and empowering.

This book is not just about becoming a professional cyclist; it’s about maximizing potential and finding joy in the pursuit, no matter your age or life circumstances.

Thank you so much for being so transparent and for sharing years of lessons learned.

Tatiana Melo

This book is so amazing.

I just started cycling 3 years ago at the age of 31 and will never make it. But all the stories can be taken over or projected to the real world.

Such an inspiration and everyone can take this book for life lessons. Thx Jack and cheers

Andi Oberhauer

First of all I need to say that the title of the book threw me off a little bit. I don’t really know what I was expecting but I did expect something totally different to what I then read.

I did not expect to be able to relate, I did unfortunately expect to probably be bored about all the numbers and the “this is how much you need to train” explanations.

I didn’t think I would be able to relate since I am from Europe, I am a female and I am a pro. BUT!! Oh was I wrong...

For me this is not a handbook on how to become a pro. It’s more of the story about young people trying to figure out their way in a world that looks nothing like the real world (the world of cycling) but still very much needing to be a part of the real world at the same time with the struggles of finding accommodation and surviving financially and physically. Every lesson that is learnt from it and an explanation to how to survive living in both worlds at the same time.

I am on my fifth year in the elite peloton. I am also on my fifth year of trying to figure out how to become better physically, stronger mentally, overcoming obstacles, learning to fight in uncomfortable situation, realizing what I need when I am not in my safe space at home and my fifth year of trying to be better. And even if this book is about you trying to make it in the male peloton, you are from north America and the way that you had to go is different, I did realize that the obstacles are very similar.

I did relate to “coming to team camp after a long winter at home” situations that you explained. I am privilege enough to be able to go to enough camps every winter and to live in a part of Sweden where you can usually ride the road bike for most part of the winter. But coming to training camp after a few weeks without seeing the sun or a couple of endurance rides on Zwift is still incredible.

I have always been afraid to talk to non-Europeans about how they have made Europe-life work and how I have been struggling to make “Belgium/Netherlands-life” work for me. I have felt like it does not even compare since I “only” stayed for weeks or mabye maximum 2 months at a time and if I really needed to go home I could. Like when covid hit... But reading your book made me realize that I should have... because even if I am closer to home and am away for shorter periods of time the struggles AND solutions are the same as for non-Europeans (it seems). And learning how to deal with being uncomfortable with something you are not familiar with and to know what you need wherever you go INSTEAD of just trying to survive until I get to go home has changed a lot for me.

I loved all your crazy anecdotes about your training in all conditions. But the best part of the hole book is how you explained that training in all conditions and training really hard is not the hardest part about this sport because this is actually doing something you love just in a condition that you may not like. The hardest part is doing small things when we are really uncomfortable and way out of our comfort zones...

Julia Borgström

It's very simple - if you love cycling, buy this book!

As a huge fan of professional cycling, this is just such an amazing (and rare) insight into what it takes to try and make the top of cycling.

At times hilarious, at times very poignant, but always interesting. Reading this book meant I learnt so much about cycling about the continental level, which is absolutely fascinating.

Jack is a great storyteller, and the stories about his experience of illicit night-time skiing and experimenting with extreme sauna heat adaptation are just so gripping.

The podcasts with the likes of Alison Jackson and Sepp Kuss are also worth the purchase alone!"

Rob Faux

Don't be fooled by the cheesy title (sorry Jack!), How to become a Pro cyclist is much more than a guide to the top of the sport of road cycling.

It features Jack's own stories in his rollercoaster ride racing his bike all over the world, and pursuing his dream. As well as insights from dozens of other experts and professional riders along the way.

It is refreshing to hear someone else who has tried all the crazy stuff and pushed so hard to try and make it to the World Tour. It really hits home the tragic nature of elite sport; there is much more to success than simply effort. Luck has a substantial impact on your chance of success.

The probability of getting paid to race your bike in the biggest races is incredibly low, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth a shot. Jack's own story illustrates that there is much to be gained from doing hard things, pushing your limits and giving life your best shot. And I'm sure you'll pick up a few tips and ideas to apply to your own training and racing along the way.

Thanks for all the insights and wild stories Jack. Keep making books, videos and podcasts, they are brilliant!

James McKay

This book is amazing for all cyclists. I am in no position to even consider becoming a pro cyclist, but the book is much more than that.

It's about overcoming adversity, always being your best self, and, as Jack so aptly puts it, enjoying the ride. Jack's anecdotes from his journey are entertaining and provide such a unique, intriguing look behind the scenes of pro cycling that you never hear.

I don't know what it's like to move to Europe to ride shoulder-to-shoulder against the best, but thanks to Jack's genuine and heartfelt stories of the ups and downs, I feel like I've done the journey twice over.

And the best part about the audio book - hearing the thick Canadian accent.

Jonathan Skule

I love keep learning new things and optimize myself. I think the best educational/informational content or podcasts are the ones where experts talk about super complicated things that you lie to yourself you understand, and then the host asks just the right questions to make you actually understand what you practically need to do. That's what this book is!

Your book really helped me feel better in this frustrating season. I raced in Italy for a club team, living in the worst conditions (maybe not a barn, but still not quite liveable)

not even racing as much as I was told, on a 10 year old bike, having to pay for all of that thus needing to be calm and still try to perform as you need the results.

Oh, and be sure on every pre race ride I ride up the hill I live on with a few kilos of rice in my pockets or some other groceries ;)

That’s chasing the dream I guess and it was nice to hear more people are going through much of the same.

The book was amazing!

Yonatan Uri

"I really enjoyed "How to Become a Pro Cyclist". It is a unique perspective from someone that dedicated their life to the sport we all love and never quite made it.

We are so accustomed to hearing success stories that it is nice to hear the other side. We often forget how hard it is to make it as an elite athlete and are only ever fed the soundbites of the few that do make it. Becoming a successful professional athlete is hard!

Jack lays it all on the line and details the sacrifices required to make it and that no matter how hard you try it doesn't always work out. It takes a lot of courage to tell your story of giving everything and not achieving what you set out to. With social media constantly flooding our lives with how amazing everything is it's refreshing to read something "real".

This book offers foundational advice for anyone pursuing a dream as a career. Certainly, any cyclist will be inspired by the story. Definitely a must read for any young cyclist whose goal is to race professionally.

The book will provide a realistic look at what it will take to have a chance to succeed, from not only the cycling, but also teamwork/networking required perspective.

I’m a 60 year old father, husband, physician and lifelong cyclist who races bikes. I am continually looking to improve my cycling, my relationships, my work and thinking of what’s next. Jack’s book reinvigorates me in my lifelong pursuit of successes! The story will help anyone who is beginning any career realize that the hard work involved is part of the process, and will pay off. Maybe not exactly the way they think at the beginning, but ultimately wherever they land/have landed reflects the work put in. Jack’s book will also re-inspire someone is asking themself questions of whether to continue in their career, or provide the courage to branch off onto a new path!

I have a personal saying “Successes lie along a path paved on consistency, by grit.”

Thank you, Jack for this wonderful work It is perfect.

Jim Slauson

The book features both Jack's personal stories and also advice/interviews with experts which I really liked.

It's a nice mix of casual conversations and inspiring stories that you can relate to your own cycling journey.

In cycling rarely do people open up about their struggles and hardships, so learning more about what it really takes was definitely inspiring.

Joseph Inglis

Completely humbling and utterly inspiring.

An inside look at an amazing and unique journey through the upper echelons of road cycling in Europe.

Come for the candid and detailed advice that will level up your training, stay for the hilarious stories and anecdotes that put it all in perspective.

Carter Hall

Just finished up the audiobook after buying it a few months back. The book was so good!

Thanks for sharing some pretty heartbreaking stuff but also normalizing the euro experience.

I found myself going back over a few ideas and taking notes about injury prevention, crazy training plans and places to check out.

I'm not even racing anymore and just riding the bike because I love it but listening to the book stoked the flame and got me dreaming up some big days with training to boot.

Callie Swan

Reading Jack's book made me look at myself in the mirror. To get all the access to so much knowledge from the gains to the mistakes at such a low cost is really a gift.

This book will definitely make you ask yourself, are you training hard enough?

Tyler Hannay

A great book to read or listen to that will definitely give you a brutally honest perspective of the hard work and dedication required to try and make it to the highest level in arguably the most difficult sport as a foreigner.

The book is packed with tips and advice that Jack learned over the years but, you'll also find some pretty outrageous experiences that might make you think twice before trying yourself.

Nonetheless, very entertaining stories!

Nickolas Zukowsky

This book contains so much knowledge about cycling, training, and life in general.

The book contains so many interesting stories and experiences. It is impossible to read this book without getting motivated to chase your dreams and work harder to achieve them.

Preben Bronstad

This book makes you feel so many emotions, it’s raw, intense, inspiring, and so much more.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to make it over in Europe, than this is the book for you

Dr. Nathan Jeffs

As I read this book. It turns out I first met Jack, unofficially, during one of his training rides. At night. With no lights. In the mid of winter, riding down the middle of the Sea to Sky Highway on his way back from hill repeats on Cypress Mountain Highway.

I had no idea what his story was. The history. The passion, dedication and hard work. The devastation and heartbreak. His will to continue and persevere.

This book is not just for an aspiring cyclist looking for the in's and out's on how to turn pro. This book provides an insight for anyone looking to succeed. This book is about determination. This book is about believing. This book is about hard work.

As a hobby cyclist I do enjoy the stories. The triumphs and tribulations. The podcasts with past and present pro's. This book dives into the nitty gritty behind the scenes info no one wants to tell you. Jack does.

Jack wants you to succeed. Jack may have not made the top step in pro cycling, yet. But he also isn't giving up.

Follow your dreams.

Glenn Peck

The enthusiasm and positivity are infectious!

Even if you have no intention of becoming a pro cyclist, the adventure, journey and stories in this book are worth the read (or listen)!

Ian Martin

Wanting to pursue professional cycling as a career is extremely challenging as we all know. However, Jack provides an excellent road map.

This book features an incredible amount of helpful anecdotes of not only his experiences in the sport but also many other athletes.

This book's biggest strength is all of the small but extremely important details you can't find online.

I loved how the ebook comes with an audiobook as well. I got through the book primarily by listening to the audiobook on my endurance rides.

If you're also chasing professional cycling, I can't recommend this book enough!

Jacob Velasco

Loved the book, super inspirational and helped me pull myself out of a bit of a hole in my own cycling endeavours

Connor Vickers

How to become a pro cyclist it is a very inspiring book. I wish I had read it 10 or 12 years ago, when I wasn't in Europe and my dream was to be a professional.

You learn that to achieve the goal you have to be very dedicated, and not give up, so I think it is not only useful for cycling, but also for other areas of life.

I definitely recommend it!

Eduardo Sepúlveda

offers readers a captivating glimpse into the journey from the junior category to the world tour.

The book not only shares personal stories but also provides valuable insights and tips from both him and other pros, creating a compelling exploration of the shared pursuit of reaching the world tour.

Eric Bartolomeo

Jack seems to have tried it all, and through this book he brings you along his journey.

Reaching out to and learning from so many other athletes, Jack is sitting on more knowledge than most of the guys in the world tour.

This book is a nice mix of stories and tips, especially if your coming to Europe from overseas. After reading there is also plenty of podcasts to dive into, with a mix of riders so big you'll for sure find someone you enjoy listening to!

If you've ever dreamed of swapping your office desk for endless miles on the road and a pro team jersey, How to Become a Pro Cyclist by Jack Burke is a must-read. Burke, who’s been through the grind of professional cycling, doesn’t sugarcoat the realities of the sport but manages to keep things inspiring and genuinely helpful.

What’s Inside?

The book starts with the basics—training plans, nutrition tips, and mental resilience—and then dives into the trickier parts of making it in the pro scene, like securing sponsorships and handling team politics. Burke’s advice feels practical, like something you’d hear over coffee with a teammate who’s been around the block.

Why It Stands Out

What I really appreciated is how much attention Burke gives to the mental game. Cycling is as much about grit and smart decision-making as it is about watts and VO2 max. He also keeps it real about the sacrifices required to go pro, but without being discouraging. Plus, the training and nutrition sections are detailed without feeling like a science textbook.

Personal Touch

The best parts are Burke’s personal stories—wins, losses, and the in-between moments that make pro cycling such a wild ride. They add character to the advice and make the whole thing feel less like a lecture and more like a conversation.

Who’s This For?

Whether you’re an amateur racer gunning for your first contract, a dedicated club rider dreaming bigger, or just a cycling fan curious about life in the pro peloton, there’s something here for you.

Final Thoughts

How to Become a Pro Cyclist isn’t just another training manual—it’s a peek behind the curtain of professional cycling with plenty of solid advice along the way. Burke’s writing is straightforward, relatable, and packed with insights you won’t find just scrolling cycling forums.

I loved this book from the first minute on. I´m a 39-year-old dad/business owner who started cycling 3 years ago. So I´m far away from being a pro. Still, the book was so much fun to listen to.

I loved listening to Jack's story via audiobook as it was far more personal listening to the person who wrote the book than listening to someone else reading it. Besides that, I got a better understanding of some parts of training and nutrition. But man listening to these stories was just fun. I recommended this book to all of my friends. So 10 out of 10 would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good sports book.

Jack Burke’s How to Become a Pro Cyclist is not just a guide for aspiring athletes—it’s an inspiring journey that blends passion, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of dreams for all of us.

As someone who is a true embodiment of hard work and dedication, Jack’s book offers readers much more than practical advice; it’s a window into his life and the mindset that helps him succeed.

I absolutely loved reading this book. I finished it in just a few days because it wasn’t only informative, but also incredibly enjoyable.

Jack’s stories from his career are filled with raw emotion and humor, making the content also fun to read. His personal experiences are relatable and motivating, making it clear that becoming a professional cyclist requires more than just physical training—it’s about chasing your dream, no matter how impossible it might seem at times.

One of the key lessons I took away from Jack’s book is the importance of following your passion, no matter the obstacles. His journey is proof that with determination, you can turn your dreams into reality. It’s a message that resonates deeply, not just for athletes, but for anyone pursuing a big goal.

Jack Burke is a true role model for hard work and pure passion. His story is a testament to what can be achieved when you give everything to your dream.

If you’re a fan of cycling, or simply someone who needs a little inspiration to chase your own dreams, this book is a must-read.

Jack has created a funny yet incredibly useful tool for all ranges of cyclists and great to have in the toolbox for cyclists trying to make it.

Full of such great stories and mentors and this information is a blessing to me and people alike. Whilst showing the incredibly brutal realities of pro cycling and just the shear determination and will power it takes to even attempt to make it pro.

Jack embraces these challenges and sharing how he and other pros trains, thinks and acts from the juniors up until now and all the adversity faced is just so inspiring yet daunting as you can’t quite comprehend how this guy isn’t a professional.

Once you finish this book or even the first chapter you will be routing for Jack as his stories are just crazy yet makes for such good reading.

I have learnt so much from this book and if you haven’t read it your certainly missing out on a bucket full of gems. It truly is worth every penny and can’t recommend enough. Seriously if you have the money, you need this book!!

Amazing book for all athletes or others who just enjoy some great storytelling. As a cyclist if you ever don't know what you could possibly do to become better, Jack's book will definitely help you get some new ideas!

For me the biggest takeaway from the book is how lucky I am being on one of the big development teams and not having to deal with a lot of the problems Jack encountered.

I highly recommend Jack's book!

I've listened to this book three times already, haha! It really helps me during my long sessions on the trainer. I absolutely loved it, and I’m sure I’ll listen to it again during my long cross-country skiing or cycling sessions this summer.

The book is incredibly inspiring and reassuring because I see myself in these stories. I’m making the leap to Europe this year, so I’m taking lots of notes from the mistakes Jack made to avoid repeating them myself.

I love the way he tells stories, and I’m certain that Jack will get the opportunity to race at the WorldTour level. Even if that doesn’t happen, young riders like me will succeed thanks to Jack's advice.

Becoming a professional athlete has always been a sort of pipe dream for me.

I'm now working as a civil engineer. On a good week, I'm able to get about 15 hours of riding in. It wasn't until age 22 that I began to race. Though I have made giant leaps in my development, I'm still nowhere near professional level.

My goal in cycling is to become a Category 1 rider here in the US.

I really enjoyed this book. I find it inspiring to read or listen to others go after a dream of theirs, especially if it's one that's been on my mind as well. My place in the sport may never be in the pro ranks, but that doesn't mean I can't continue working hard and giving it my all. This book really opened my eyes to the extent that one needs to go to become a professional. It seems like every week there's an article about some 18 year old kid signing a world tour contract. That's great, however, that would make for a boring book. I respect the hell out of you for continuing to go at it after all the struggles you've had. Cycling to me is a sport for dreamers.

Thanks to this book, I now know what it takes to get to the very top.

I really enjoyed How To Become a Pro Cyclist. As someone who came up through NCCH after Jack, and currently works at WOP where he used to sneak onto the ski trails I loved hearing stories about people and locations I know well.

A lot of his stories are relatable to anyone who trains in endurance sports and is trying any way they can and whether you are chasing the dream of becoming a pro cyclist or not, there are a lot of lessons he talks about that are universal. Whether you are looking for something to keep you occupied whilst on the trainer or out on a big day and want something to listen to, or you are looking to pursuit cycling as a career you will get your moneys worth.

I really loved listening to this book.

It captures the journey of chasing a dream with unwavering dedication, hard work and sacrifice.

Jack's work ethic is truly inspiring to hear and all the crazy ideas he tried over the years. But under the crazy stories lies valuable lessons for aspiring cyclists. Through Jack's experience, ideas and mistakes you gain a lot of knowledge about what to do or don't when trying to turn pro.

The book offers a lot of stories and deep insight into the professional cycling world and with Jack's gift for storytelling it gives you a lot of good hours of listening.

I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed the book. It was a perfect mixture of useful information, story telling and also entertaining.

Would 100% recommend even for a non cyclist.

Jacks story is something extraordinary and paired with the information about sports psychology and physiology gives you something that nothing else does.

This is the help that every young athlete needs and should listen to because not so many people speak loud about things included in the book.

Listened to the full story twice already. Had few messages with Jack and what a person he is, grateful and cheering for everyone on their way.

Thanks Jack

This book is so inspiring!

It's full of crazy stories, great insights into what it truly takes to make it, lessons to learn from and tips not only for cycling but also for your everyday life.

It's also great for listening to on your long rides, as it's so entertaining and makes time fly by.

It has definitely fueled the fire in me, and I would recommend it to any young rider dreaming of becoming a professional cyclist.

Jack’s book is more than a story. Written by a cyclist, for cyclists, this book has no filters and no breaks. It’s an uninterrupted stream of consciousness, whose ambitious goal is clear: make you a better cyclist through information. And after reading it, sure as hell you’ll want to go out there and smash all of your climbing records, even if they’re not World Tour-comparable as his.

Michele Pelacci

5 Stars!

This is an engaging, behind-the scenes look at the what life is like in the professional athlete. You get all the details and a LOT of great stories and information about one of the most passionate cyclists I've ever heard of.

This book will fire up your motivation to go ride your bike 24/7 enjoying every second of it.

Also, come with audio book, best for doing indoor sessions or long endurance rides.

I'm not a huge reader, maybe 2-3 books a year. When my former coach from my U23 years sent me a copy of this for Christmas, I decided to give it a listen on the trainer rides to kill the time during the dreary long endurance days.

It's now a daily listen that I can't put down - even relistening to chapters and taking notes.

I never chased the pro dream as much as I probably could have - spent 5 years in Belgium for university, tried out for a single U23 team, but cycling was always the passion project, not the plan.

The stories Jack tells go beyond just being a cyclist, it's about developing as a person. Between trying to make a friend every day, ways he's playing with training, experiencing burnout, it's applicable above and beyond the select few who are chasing that contract - it's relatable to anyone chasing greatness in whatever they've chosen to do.

Everyone has a story - and super thankful to folks like Jack who throw pen to paper and share their experiences, whether that's to help the next 16 year old find his way into a yellow jersey or a 20-something cold caller who just wants to enjoy the experience.

As a guy from Austria it is really easy to listen to you. You have a voice you enjoy listening to and it is not nervwreking. When you ask me what part I liked most... there is none, all parts are great but there are some that are more "into" my soul and others more into my endurance pacemaker.

My inner endurance pacemaker loves hearing your stories, because it always says it cannot be that hard, remember Jacks storries. Cycling in Thunderstorms, no lights in the darkness, training up to 60hours a week, ...

So for me the book is great and it makes my training sessions even more enjoyable.

As a masters cyclist I never bought this book with the intention of becoming a pro cyclist. I bought it for entertainment and some insight into what it is like to try and make it at the highest level of the sport I love.

I enjoyed this book so much that I have listened to it twice now.

Jack’s story with all the ups and downs is both inspiring and heartbreaking. Jack really wants to help young cyclists not make the same mistakes he has made along the way. He provides plenty of advice to help them get there in an entertaining format.

This book is definitely worth the read. I’m cheering for you Jack!

How to become a pro cyclist. The name can be a bit scary for a 39 year old hobby cyclist. I don't want to be a pro cyclist although a small part of me wants to believe I could have if only I had started 30 years earlier 😂

I'm not though and I won't ever be one but I love "A" to hear how someone can train to be the best at their sport and "B" I love an amazing underdog story. With Jack Burke I get both.

So the book could be two titled. "How to become a pro cyclist" or "how to learn about the crazy life of someone trying to be pro, learn a lot, have a laugh and maybe beat some of your friends on your next group ride

"How to Become a Pro Cyclist" is not just a guide for aspiring cyclists; it’s a journey through the highs and lows of chasing a dream.

Jack shares both his own experiences and those of former and current professionals, offering a collection of hard-earned lessons (from knowledgeable and experienced people) to help you navigate your journey, both on and off the bike.

While cycling is the main focus, the book ultimately delves into the broader themes of perseverance, resilience, growth, overcoming setbacks, and discovering your own path. In my opinion, some of the most valuable teachings in this book are how to live a better life off the bike while chasing your dreams.

Those seeking training advice will find plenty of information in this book. When it comes to training advice, I think it's important to emphasize that independent thinking within your unique situation is necessary. This book will be of great help to you if you can do that.

As an enthusiast who is never going to go pro I found the book really entertaining and got a lot of tips that can be applied to cyclists at any level. Jack's stories gave me a new appreciation of what it takes to make it at the highest level. Would recommend this to anyone who loves cycling.

Loved the book, even if I am not a pro cyclist (and sadly never will be), I really loved hearing stories about how Jack and others could go down deep to try to make it.

It helped me in my own training and it felt much easier, after hearing what others went through. My training hours went by so much quicker and easier and now that I have finished the book I feel that something is missing.. Looking forward to hear some more stories!

I absolutely loved this book and it got me through a lot of training rides.

I did close to 1100h on the bike this year and this book definitely helped me to motivate me on the tough days!

This book highlights how hard the path of becoming a pro cyclist through a regular European Continental Team is and which obstacles on the way to the top have to be overcome.

Jacks attitude is really inspiring and the book reveals what mindset you got to have to even survive on the way to the pro ranks.

If you struggle with motivation or go trough a tough period on your cycling journey I highly suggest reading this book.

Jack is in fact the "David Goggins" of the cycling world.

Even though Jack hasn’t made it to the top yet you don’t feel like he as any form of resentment.

The journey and memories on the way of becoming a professional cyclist undoubtedly have built Jack's strong character.

The book is absolute insane, like Jack (in a good way),

truly inspiring! Really well written, i’ve listened using the app when cycling on trainer and out on the bike, when drive ecc. the reading is pure motivation, with many tips (used and integrated a lot in my training thanks!!) and crazy stories.

You can't remain unmoved and uninspired by his stories and his passion and inner strength. I recommend the book 100%, it will change you for the better and will give you a lot in terms of advice and motivation to be the best cycling version and not of your life.
